I’m lettin' go, goin' public; here I go, goin' for it: I’m goin' grey, have gone bald, (not yet blind or deaf); I've long gone out of fashion; am goin' downhill; but I won’t go out softly; phat flow's goin'... in... for the kill! 🎯
The above poem is my take on d’Verse’s Quadrille challenge #122.
The quadrille is simply a poem of 44 words (excluding the title), and it can take any form. This week’s challenge was to use the word “go” in a quadrille.
That’s a frightening picture! Remind me not to get into your crosshairs!
😈
Gray hair and baldness aren’t life-threatening, thank goodness! Don’t raise your blood pressure by worrying about it You have children to keep you young! ❤ ❤ ❤ Enjoyed reading your amusing poem!
I’m actually not really worried about it, Cheryl. I was just inspired to write this because of the word ‘go’ … and a bunch of phrases came to my mind 🙂
Yours,
David
I am bald and grey and short and fey.
Small feet and children’s shoes.
The most unhandsome figure of a man.
Loving that last rhymed line – right on target!
Thanks so much!
-David
Nicely done…its all about growing in wisdom. Other amenities(hair etc) are extra.👍
still working on the wisdom 🧸
Me too😊👍
🖤
🤍
My husband and I both have Covid hair now–and mine is grey. But I agree with Ingrid about the photo!
Merril,
is COVID hair when you don’t brush your hair during extended periods of quarantine? 😉
-David
Hahaha. It might be, but not in my case. I wash and comb mine regularly–it’s just long and gray now.
We do a lot of going in our lives… and in the ending as well. Well done David!
Thanks, Dwight 🤍
-David
Grey hair is kinda inevitable isn’t it? Considering the stressful environment we are living in for the past few years.
actually, oddly, I don’t have gray hairs – mine seem to go straight to white!
😁
-David
Lucky you
really? are white hairs better than gray?
Yes, more dignified
Sanaa, as long as Lady Clairol lives, grey hair isn’t inevitable! 😉 They even have Grecian Formula for the guys now.
Cracked me up, you bitter ‘ole man. (smiling, cause I’ll bet I am older and feel the same damn thing — but only when I am honest.)
heheheh
Thanks, Sabio 😀
-David
Ah self analysis is so damned unforgiving! I’m sure others see you in kinder light!
I try not to ask, Bev!
🤡
David
I’ll do my best to stay out of the cross-hairs. That feels scary.
But I do firmly think that out of fashion is a good idea. Why chase empty shopping. Since before twenty I have been constantly out of fashion unless the current trend happen to fit my eclectic wardrobe. Which actually contain several vintage dresses older than I am. 🙂
thanks; that’s a good point, and good on you!
but maybe in this case it’s me, rather than my clothing that’s out of fashion!
🤪
David
I’m trying to make the point that being out of fashion and into compassion and caring for the world is preferable. However you make that statement.
😜
You’re making it very difficult for me to be hard on myself, RedCat 😀
Well I’m working very hard to be less hard on myself. So there might be some overflow. 😄
looks right on target to me David … but that is one scary pic!
yeah, I’ve been getting that reaction a lot recently 😀
you guys are used to guns over there, I’m a peace lover 🙂
I’ve never held a gun, but I do love me some action movies!
lol my failing is the crime novels … should have been a forensic psych 🙂
I’m glad that’s a camera. Sometimes its better to study oneself with a long-range lens. Those close-ups can be painful.
🤗
Not going softly, eh? Your poem strikes my conscience.
would you say that it hit the mark? 😉
That’s exactly what I am saying, Ben.
I liked this one, great use of the word go David, put together nicely. Grey, bald etc, ahhhh can’t wait. Hehe. Growth and wisdom come with a different form of beauty though 🙂🌹
Trust me, Amirah, you can wait 😉
🤣…
Had quite a go at it didn’t you? 😀
Nicely done David!
I had a go, and off it went, Sangeetha! 🙃
Hahaha👍
Quadrille you say. I’m adding this one to my list of forms to try. Skidding sideways into the grave is a fun way to go but I’d rather not get into that flow!
Apparently, it’s a form unique to d’Verse ~ they came up with it on their own (I don’t know the story behind it).
-David
I want to embrace my silver, but it hasn’t embraced me yet! It’s hiding underneath the dirty blonde. Nothing wrong with bald – my husband once had very long auburn waves and then started going bald in his twenties. I can’t imagine him any other way now. Going old disgracefully is fun.
your final sentence made me chuckle, Kim. Thanks! 😀
-David
Nice poem Ben!
Linda, thank you 😀
-David
Lol- I meant David. It’s early here and only half a cup of coffee in! 🙏🏻
That’s totally fine, Linda! I knew what I was getting myself into when I picked this pen name 😀
Yours,
David
🙂
I love the free spirit in this …. like you, I let it go when I turned 70 (coloring my hair) embraced the white! Ah, chemical free is good. Cheers, Ben.
Thanks, Helen!

David
As we go downhill I think our sanity softens and then we have this poem. 😆
heheheh – nice one, Tricia!
❤
David
Getting older is scary but I should think a certain amount of freedom comes with it too. I’m not very sure about wisdom though😂
Amusing and poignant write!
I’m not very sure about wisdom either 😀
-David
There are many ways to go without leaving.
Indeed.
Cute. Made me grin. I want a walking stick so I can demand social distancing from numpties that encroach on my space.
Misky, that can’t be too hard to come by 😀
-David
When shops open again, perhaps.
How about this one? It’s a “Volt stun Gun Walking Stick”!
LOL! And I quote: “Currently Unavailable. We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.”
alas!
I love the way you play with words. Our language is always asking for it I think. (K)
It makes poetry fun for me 🙂
Ahh fine “mic skills” my good friend!
I am slain.

We have to go when we have to but for some, ageing is a painful process. But then, you were having a go at using words for fun and succeeded hugely. 😊
Thank you so very much, Punam
🤍
David
Always a pleasure, David. ❤️
We all go out of fashion when we get old. The thing is you discover it isn’t important
💯
