Mermaid, or: Accessories

Based on a true story

Seeing mermaid denuded made my cheeks blush,
As smart, sparkling eyes spied its hairbrush;
To my abundant wonder,
She reimagined her plunder;
Giggling, she declared the new mer-brush.

  1. Hehe! I was at the thrift store and took a moment to dress all the Barbie dolls that I could find clothes for… it just seemed indecent to let them stay in a naked jumbled pile….

  2. This is beyond precious. Your little girl sounds like she is very proud of her Papa and wants to be just like him. What a beautiful thing and that tells me you are doing something very right. What a creative piece, I would never have come up with an idea like that. I bet she grinned from ear to ear and she will be telling all her classmates that her Papa wrote a beautiful mermaid poem for her. Now I am going back to read the rest of this post.

      Thanks so much, Joni. I read it to her two days ago, and she’s still mulling it over… for example, yesterday she asked me what I meant by β€œblush” in this poem, and today she asked me what I meant by β€œdeclared” – she takes words seriously (like me)

      1. Oh you have an intelligent thinker there. I think that makes it all the sweeter. She is really showing her love for her Papa by wanting to understand every word, how it fits in to how you see her. What a lovely child your family is raising David. Your Papa would be so very proud of the father you are and how you are raising this beautiful little person. Children are such a gift from God. Thank you for sharing this with me it is so precious.
