Refrain, or: Reality

My 1st Mirrored Refrain

I'm as jaded as anyone,
Having stared down mortality;
Try though I might, I can't refrain;
Rhymes mine mirror reality

In poetry, I wax clever,
But mind and wit are on the wane;
Rhymes mine mirror reality;
Try though I might, I can't refrain

Beauty coaxes and beckons me;
But fades behind brutality;
Try though I might, I can't refrain;
Rhymes mine mirror reality

With soul possessed, I produce verse,
Else I might choke on seeping pain;
Rhymes mine mirror reality;
Try though I might, I can't refrain

I hate conflict and argument,
But age distrusts neutrality;
Try though I might I can't refrain;
Rhymes mine mirror reality

  1. you liked something i wrote and so I wanted to see your page and it took me to “Natural English, or: Sidespin” …. I read it once, twice, ten times.. it seems to be divinely inspired. anyway Thank you for reading my essay but more importantly I thank you for sharing your gift and I look forward to reading your work.

      1. Thank you so much.
        You live in Israel? This makes me so happy to speak with someone from Israel because it is my dream destination. I cut from an atlas of detailed map of Tel Aviv and surrounding cities and on the other side is the same but is Jerusalem and i framed it, its above my table where I keep my journals and books..I was born into catholicism but as an adult I rejected it. I searched for God on my own and went in many directions, even rejecting Him altogether.. A few months ago though, during a tragic personal loss, I suddenly felt compelled to the Old Testament and it just “spoke” to me. from there I found solace and inspiration and an awe for life itself studying Kabbalah. from there, I read on Judaism, more Kabbalah, and finally back to Christianity which finally I felt I understood as it was intended to be. during all of that, the idea of Israel and its history and all it stands for became dear to my heart . thank you again

  2. Now jaded is a word I would never associate with your poetry! This line is so relatable ‘ age distrusts neutrality’.
