Poets in Jerusalem?
Yes, poets in Jerusalem!
How (and I do mean HOW) cool is this? Through WordPress, I have come across a fellow poet in Jerusalem! Her name is Shoshana Sarah; and (even better!) she organizes multilingual poetry readings in Jerusalem. Her poetry group is called ‘Poets of Babel’, and it meets several times a year at various venues.
As soon as I came across her blog, I reached out to her; and she responded. I have no idea when the next poetry reading will be held, but it already feels as though I have something to look forward to. How lovely it will be to meet in a multilingual setting and share poetry with other writers! How lovely it will be to meet other poets in person.
To me, this feels like a missing jigsaw puzzle piece, hidden somewhere between the dark leather cushions of the loveseat in my family room. I’ve spent countless hours clacking away at my keyboard in that same room, writing and sending my poetry out into this ether, feeling that somewhere… somewhere very nearby is a missing piece of my life.
Beyond this, I would add that one of the hardest things about moving to a country at the age of ~30 is making new friends… and I mean – real friends. I’m talking about finding people that I can relate to and communicate freely, fluidly and fully with. For me, given my personal story, a multilingual community of poets presents a wonderful opportunity.
In any case, there’s nothing further for me to report yet, but I am very excited and wanted to share that with you ๐

Your excitement is palpable and contagious!! Now I’m excited too! I think there are more people in Israel than you realize who arrived in early adulthood! I know my cousin was one…
thing is that I don’t want to live exclusively among immigrants, nor be friends only with immigrants… but it’s easiest for me to connect with them… a multilingual community is perfect for me because it means that people are coming from all sectors of Israeli society ๐
