My 2nd Duodora
EPIGRAPH:
To be, or not to be, that is the question:
(from Hamlet, spoken by Hamlet)
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them.
Sitting, thinking
about rhythms and rhymes;
syllables and forms;
lines and enjambments;
density of words...
Wondering whether an American
Sentence is actually poetry.
Sitting, thinking
that creative writing's
more interesting
than either of my
two jobs. Drudgery
pays the bills; but it's such a terrible
sentence to serve out. Would I could just be.
Duodora?
The Duodora is:
- a quatorzain made up of 2 septets.
- syllabic, 4/6/5/5/5/10/10 syllables per line.
- rhymed Axxxxxb Axxxxxb L1 is repeated as a refrain that begins the 2nd stanza. x is unrhymed.
Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.
–Ben Harper (b. 1969)
Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
Have to earn a living. Oh well. May writing help us earn a name. 🙂

Welcome, David. Always! ❤️
The lure of poetry is strong – but the need to eat is stronger!! Enjoy the rhyme but be sure to get food on the table!!

Drudgery does pay the bills, but creativity is the spice of life. Great poem.
😍🥰 Molly 🥰😍
I’m sure there’s a better way. But in the meantime, those bills pile up. Not to mention the tasks involved in day to day life. (K)
Yep. 😧💨
“Drudgery pays the bills; but it’s such a terrible sentence to serve out. Would I could just be.” I’m very fortunate David that I have an incredible wife who takes on that drudgery to allow me the freedom to write poetry! 📝❤️😁
😀 yeah, that’s really lucky 😀
Don’t I know it! 👍😊❤️
I hear you David! Do you know this one:

🤗 Ken 🤗

My paid work involves writing, but it is not nearly as enjoyable as writing poetry.
Mine involves a bit of writing too, but definitely not of a creative nature.
Well, drudgery is super boring, but yeah, it does pay the bills… but creative writing can earn you lots too! Nice duodora, it was fun reading about something even I’ve been thinking about.. and btw here’s a new musette:
