Change your leaves, keep intact your roots…

Roots are not in landscape or a country, or a people, they are inside you.

Isabel Allende (b. 1942)

A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.

Marcus Garvey (1887 – 1940)

Storms make trees take deeper roots.

What a miracle life is and how alike are all souls when they send their roots down deep and meet and are one!

Nikos Kazantzakis (1883 – 1957)

What we call wisdom is the result of all the wisdom of past ages. Our best institutions are like young trees growing upon the roots of the old trunks that have crumbled away.

Henry Ward Beecher (1813 – 1887)

If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him.

John F. Kennedy (1917 – 1963)

All things must come to the soul from its roots, from where it is planted.

Teresa of Ávila (1515 – 1582)

You can have more than one home. You can carry your roots with you, and decide where they grow.

Like any good tree that one would hope to grow, we must set our roots deep into the ground so that what is real will prosper in the Light of Love.

Change your opinions, keep to your principles; change your leaves, keep intact your roots.

  1. So many wise quotes. Henning Mankell made me wonder though, – can we take our roots with us?

      1. Hmm – I’m not sure. I think we leave some of our roots behind us as we move through life – which to me is different from taking them with us. Ho hum – I need to think about this one!

        1. Marion, me too… but for me leaving some doesn’t mean leaving all… and we can put more roots down, right? wherever we are?

          it’s a lot to think about – I agree!

I mean… let’s take it as a given that we all have roots. some may be centuries long… but others could be much shorter… (I dunno… just thinking aloud here)

          1. Different life journeys produce different roots perhaps? Taproots or fibrous roots. Or something like that. (Also going down the road of thinking aloud 🤔).

  2. Excellent reminders that we are part and parcel with our ancestors and our history as well as the ability to tap into that vast knowledge to make decisions for the future…. ❤
