Cognition, or: Deep diving

Poetry Partners #3

‘Cognition’, a cherita by Jennifer Patino of ‘Thistle Thoughts’

gaze into my reflecting pool

keep prodding & fishing
to latch onto my meaning

try to catch confessions
deep under my surface
in your analytical net

A reverse cherita by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

In the form of a sijo, a crystalline, and a monoku

ripples flowing over your face \\ deep dark eyes pooling pulling
confessions from beneath the surface \\ pushing upon opaque pupils
reflecting words backwards \\ slowing sinking away from view

sunlight's sparkles become sparser
where twilight and midnight feelings dwell

trenches below impenetrable abyss - undiscovered creatures

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. I love how the collaboration is like an invitation and a reply. The poems work well together imagery-wise, and the different voices (style) provide a nice contrast that highlights the personalities of the speakers.

      1. I can’t keep up with more than one platform, and for the moment at least I have chosen Instagram. But I won’t be deleting my blog and may still post some news from time to time 🙂 And perhaps one day, I’ll change my mind or feel better and post more regularly to my blog again!
