Other, or: Mine

Poetry Partners #41

‘other, or: touch’, a series of senryu by Freddie Omm of ‘freddie omm’

in another space
another time where it is
possible to touch

the untouchable
bliss of truly connecting
others with ourselves

the disturbances
that mix us all up such times
then do not disturb

I lie with you now
breathless and wordless and know
no time, space for words

I can’t say what it
is about you that is so
deeply disturbing

I can’t describe what
it is I see in you—
senses overwhelmed

words inadequate
dissolving experience
you are so other

there is no language
no tongue on earth to translate,
touch our otherness

like a long kiss long
ing to belong, to be us,
touch us together

A series of lunes by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

in another space
within you
ours was created

the untouchable
slowly grew
making herself known

the disturbances
pregnancy
caused were challenging

I lie with you now
even as
she hops between us

I can’t say what it
means to me
to know you're both mine

I can’t describe what
fatherhood
has wrought in my soul

words inadequate
in every
wanting verse I pen

there is no language
rich enough
to convey this light

like a long kiss long
overdue,
passion has my tongue

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. Many thanks, David, for your response—very touching in all senses!—the love in my haiku/senryu birthing the love in your lunes—and, to all you kind and positive commenters, it’s much appreciated!
