Rhyme, or: Reason

Sweet breeze beyond windows rhymes
Whispering sweet no-things to leaves
   that rustle coquettishly
Never before 
   have they fluttered 
   with so much animation

Flirtatious feathered creatures sailing along ethereal
Streams land in pairs
   to catch teasing airy murmurs
-Chirp-

Straining for rhymes in the drift
lethargic still long past cockcrow hour
   he hears children's
Gales of laughter and squalls 
   cherubs performing punk 
rock somewhere near 
   that distract-
   oh-

Coffee!
   wait- did- 
   his medication?
Tea-pot bubbling, steaming, he 
pops
   a
   tear-shaped pink-  
-Click-
Water's ready

Prepared for anything
   now if only it sounds good
Yes, that's the 
   point
Inhaling- too 
   sharply
-Cough-
   Coffee
   all 
      over 
-Chirp-

      Everything 
   is for the birds
   he sighs

d’Verse Open Link Night

For d’Verse OLN #309, I’m sharing this poem, which I wrote in May ’20… It was one of my earlier attempts at free verse. Also, as you can see, I colored some of the words, which is something that I haven’t seen a lot of other WP poets do… But I feel that this adds un certain quelque chose. which makes this poem more complete to me.
