Fields, or: Dreams

Poetry Partners #48

A senryū by Beka Tucker of ‘bekatucker’

Greyhound, sleek and fast.
Sleep on my couch, safe and home.
Adopted and ours.

A Cleave poem by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

(in the form of two senryū)

greyhound, sleek and fast, delicate Bella,
sleep on my couch, safe and home, running through endless dream-fields,
adopted and ours, our hearts race with love

Note

Beka has written a lot about her beloved greyhound Bella, whom she and her family adopted after the racing dog had retired. I read through most of her posts about greyhounds and attempted to write my “cleave poem” from Beka’s own perspective by adding a second senryū to her original.

The photo is from Beka’s post: ‘Pretzel Dog’.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
