Unicorn, or: Dragon

Poetry Partners #51

A tanka by Jane Aguiar of ‘Literature World’

Since antiquity
the unicorn is described
a legend creature
projected from its cute forehead
a single pointed longhorn

A shadorma by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

serpentine
wingless water gods;
oceans; lakes;
foggy skies;
auspicious Eastern dragons
symbolize good luck

fire breathing
winged destroyers;
mountains; caves;
dark forests;
rapacious Western dragons
represent evil

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

  1. […] In a dream once,I was a warrior,from ages ago…As if I knew a different time,and as if I knew none else…Enigma…Upon a beast I strode,an elegant creature…Bronze and strapping,With a mane,flaring like flames in run…Adorned,with a protrusive headpiece,its sharp glistening,in dim and light…We strode,like limbs to an armour…Hitting wind,splashing through earth,conquering horizons and skies…The sweat upon the brow,somedays,the only sign of fatigue,as we soar,our girth challenged,by the kick of hooves…Of life,and bond…Of man,and,stallion…See Also: skepticskaddish, unicorn-or-dragon […]
