The Jue Ju, or: Form verses creativity

Sangeetha & David’s new poetry project

Once upon a time, two poets who’d never met in person spontaneously began writing verses back and forth to one another over the Internet. Their first poetry project took them some nine months: a 100 verse Hyakuin.

Once they’d completed their oeuvre, the two decided to continue their creative journey together; and Sangeetha came up with a fun new idea, which David loved – to explore different poetic forms together, working through the Alphabet from ‘A’ to ‘Z’.

Every week, for twenty-six weeks beginning in January of the year 2022, they would take turns selecting poetic forms beginning with the letter corresponding to that particular week (1=A, 2=B, etc., etc.) and write poems to one another using that form.

David suggested they call their new project ‘Form verses creativity’, and so it began.

J for Jue Ju

David’s Jue Ju

hot breeze breathes over hilltops
caramel-colored curves awaken yearning
tender fingers trace intricate patterns
goosebumps arise 'pon sandy skin

Sangeetha’s Jue Ju

In restless circles, currents ripple
supple waves arch in anticipation
glistening liquid limbs, they intertwine
blue depths crave sweet agony

Jue Ju?

  • metered, 5 or 7 character or word lines;
    • (lines should be same length)
  • composed of 4 lines;
  • often erotic.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

  1. speaking of naked โ€“ I only wished I did nโ€™t have to go through pages of repetitive pre-text to go through before. Now,donโ€™t talk to me about foreplay, just donโ€™t. ๐Ÿ˜ฃ:-P

      1. A few short paragraphs are hardly pages, and there are readers who come across my partnership with Sangeetha for the first time, so they read the background info for the first time.

        1. some bewilderment may have to do with the different ways pages and whatnot are differently set up/accessed on smartphones? Remember how you couldn’t find a post of mine the other day?

  2. Sangeetha suggested a response in Jue Ju form on her post…
    A teasing tension in poetry
    Nimble minds play with words
    Creates unity across many miles
    Mรฉnage ร  trois becomes polyamory

    Seems all poets are in a way dancing naked upon the world’s stage when we share our poems publicly…

  3. Very jue ju indeed David & Sangeetha! ๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚ I love it! ๐Ÿ˜โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ Very evocative & vivid imagery! Just sublime! ๐Ÿ‘Œ
