South of Ukraine, or: Not by Russia

My 1st Sparrowlet

South of Ukraine... not by Russia...
Stuck in Moldova... Gosh, such a
frustrating and unforeseen pain
that my wife is there and thus - a
traveler stranded with no plane...
Not by Russia... South of Ukraine...

d’Verse prompt: The Sparrowlet

At d’Verse, poets were prompted to try their hands at constructing sparrowlets:

  • meter: iambic tetrameter;
  • a sestet โ€“ a poem with 6 lines;
  • the first ยฝ and the second ยฝ of line 1 make up a refrain, which is switched in the final line;
  • rhyme scheme:
    • XXXA XXXB
    • xxxxxxxb
    • xxxxxxxa
    • xxxxxxxb
    • xxxxxxxa
    • XXXB XXXA

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. Oh David, I genuinely pray your wife makes her way safely back to you. This makes Putinโ€™s toxic arrogance yet even more real for me my friend. So very sorry for this most unfortunate stresser. Peace โœŒ๐Ÿผโค๏ธ

      1. As ever, you are too generous in your response, David. While my little cinquain only touches the surface, I can barely imagine what it must feel like for you. Assuming โ€“ while for your daughter mumโ€™s just slightly delayed, you are carrying generations worth of pain and paradoxes on your shoulders. And I am not even spelling it all out here. As always reluctant to use those words as they tend to diminish the intention, I take the matter into prayer. Shabbat Shalom,

  2. Hey David! Is this just a sentiment in the poem or a reality? If it’s the latter then I do hope that your wife is fine and get’s home safely. Saying a little prayer for her and all the people in Ukraine.

    Do take care of yourself. Pouring it all out in a Sparrowlet was a great idea and so is the political map.

  3. I pray your wife is safe.
    Thanks for sharing a heartfelt sparrowlet. It is also my first time writing in this form

    Much love…
