Deep scars, or: From deep within

Poetry Partners #58

‘Deep Scars’, a Pantoum by Reena Saxena of ‘Reena Saxena’

the yellow liquid boiling inside me
it's made of many repressed blues
red rage that despised me
boils inside the pungent brew

it's made of many repressed blues
blood stains and a purple scar
boils inside the pungent brew
a remnant of what singed my soul

blood stains and a purple scar
detergents can’t wash it away
a remnant of what singed my soul
becomes orange fire to engulf

detergents can’t wash it away
the yellow liquid boiling inside me
becomes orange fire to engulf
red rage that despised me

Souls know not origin of deep scars, but carry those nevertheless

A Terza Rima Sonnet by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

I convert my pain through a grayscale filter;
Bold, harsh colors soften, melt into one same…
It’s how I keep my sanity on kilter

Every one of us burns with rainbow-lit flames;
Stare upon ‘em too long ~ minds tender get singed
We must acquire caution; master changing frames

Each experience lived emits glowing tinge;
Sparkles strike our senses, glimmering around
Glorious to see... but hearts bear stinging twinge

Let's embrace frail bodies to which all are bound,
The sensory limits of our finite minds;
Humans are the nexus of soul-light and ground

It’s upon you and me: search within to find ~
How best to live with love – to ourselves be kind

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)
