Glass woman, or: Provider

Poetry Partners #59

‘Glass Woman’, a poem by Bridget of ‘The Happy Quitter!’

Born fragile
Not able to walk
The head broke first
A small piece fell off
It didn’t matter
They glued it back on
a chip on the shoulder
Came loose later
You can’t see it
It’s hidden underneath
A layer of clothes
The perfect disguise
More scratches
More scars and scrapes
Broken pieces
Missing parts
Fragile I am not
A symbol of strength I am
And Beautiful

A Luc Bat by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

Born a male provider,
my shoulders shaped wider than my
cousin's, though we'd both cry
like both boy and girl tykes always
do in their childhood days,
but 'twasn't just a phase for me -
romantic comedies,
movies 'bout loyalty and love...
soul still flutters like doves'
wings soaring high above soft morn;
tears, no matter men's scorn...
feeling life like a born writer.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

  1. Love poems like this, they convey so much that could not be put into prose. Great writing David and Bridget.
