Brute, Anytime, or: Petty

This year, I am attempting to become active on Twitter after having created an account last year to post 365 micropoems. Among other things, this means I will be responding to Twitter poetry prompts. Initially, I wasn’t planning on x-posting those here, but then I realized: if I don’t save my Twitter poems elsewhere, I’ll never again be able to find all of them.

Of course, I have written and will write plenty more Twitter poems that I’m not especially attached to, but I don’t want to lose the ones that speak to me. Below, I’m sharing three recent senryus I’m fond of. Each was a response to a one-word prompt:

#brute

the #brute rapes Ukraine
from all directions over
and over again

#anytime

his finger could twitch
#anytime and cause total
obliteration

#petty

a #petty little
dictator with delusions
threatens World War III

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. Painful state of global affairs
    Egoistic and childish
As always the same rendevouz in the battle for world dominance
A nation must be bled, scarred and maimed

  2. Our Ukrainian American neighbor said that Russians are using locals as human shields on the front lines. This happened to the brother of a woman who is visiting them. Isn’t that a war crime? If it isn’t, it ought to be! Add it to the list! I like the poems, David. You have captured Putin’s shameful character quite well!

  3. I am having a hard time liking these but that is just because it is like watching a spider crawling closer and closer! If only I had a big enough shoe…
