Text, or: Vexed

Sevenling (Every day)

A quadrille

Every day ('cept Shabbat, cuz) I'm
at my 'puter late; sleep schedule off;
strugglin' to get up.

Las' night, my eye itches, blurry;
wake up this mornin', blurry;
later, itchy an' still - blurry.

Thought: am I at the screen too much? ... Nah, s'jus' allergies.

Sevenling

  • Lines one to three should contain three connected or contrasting statements, or a list of three details, names or possibilities. This can take up all of the three lines or be contained anywhere within them.
  • Lines four to six should similarly have three elements (statements, details, names, or possibilities) connected directly or indirectly or not at all.
  • The 7th line should act as a narrative summary or punchline or an unusual juxtaposition.

d’Verse Quadrille #147

The above ‘sevenling’ poem is my take on today’s d’Verse’s Quadrille challenge.

The Quadrille is simply a poem of 44 words (excluding the title), and it can take any form. This week’s challenge was to use the word “eye” in a Quadrille.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. I sit here one hand typing, the other rubbing my tired eyes. My work is wearing my poor eyes down and my personal pursuits are not helping. It is vexing and you captured it well.

      1. Well, it could be that you need a 40 day Lenten giving up of said screen. I once checked the screen time I’d used for a week, I have never looked again 🙂

  2. So you missed Shabbat? We missed church because we are all flooded and getting Monsoonal type rain.
    Praise Hashem we now have a Pastor Chaplain and Deacon. Not so good, all my pain has been traced to my back. I can hardly walk and sea the surgeon on Thursday.

    Sorry to interrupt.
