A haibun
This year, spring in Israel wasn’t.
I’ve loaded the laundry machine with my fleece sweater and fleece pajamas, which I was wearing just one week ago. I’ll be putting them away until next winter.
There’s a popular Israeli children’s song (in Hebrew, of course) that is sung in schools and preschools throughout the country, which our daughter sings on a near-daily basis:
The chorus (translated from Hebrew) is:
Great happiness,
Great happiness;
Spring has arrived,
Pesach (Passover) is coming!
Well, Pesach is, indeed, in just under two weeks… but these days feel more like summer to me!
summer wrenches spring
into possessive bear hug
on Pesach visit
Go Dog Go Cafe’s Haibun Wednesday
- This week’s prompt is to write a haibun about spring.
- From Poetry.org:
- In How to Haiku, Bruce Ross writes, “If a haiku is an insight into a moment of experience, a haibun is the story or narrative of how one came to have that experience.”
Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.
–Ben Harper (b. 1969)
Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

Yeah, thanks a bunch, pal. Now I’ll be whistling / humming that tune all day long.
😇 Ron 😇
I’ve been thinking about that song too! We used to sing it in primary school.
You were lucky to attend a Jewish day school!
Our Spring has been in Winter’s bearhug and I fear that it will be squeezed to death by that icy grip only to be buried by a sweltering Summer… Love this haibun (and the kids song has a catchy tune)!
❤️🤎 Muri ❤️🤎
Awesome Haiku to finish a lovely Haibun.
💕 thanks, Worms 💕
I love your haibun and the song too. Here, it’s winter again. Spring is too shy to show up.

There was a tv ad here in the Eighties for Levi 501s, guy strips off in laundramat and sits there in boxers while clothes are washed. Big, big hit. Used Grapevine as its soundtrack and made a star out of the model.
When I started reading, that’s what I thought I was in for 🤣🤣
😂 that’s an awesome commercial! I would buy jeans like that 😜
Seriously, one of the best ever commercials I think. Wearing Levis is cool. What more to convey? Had a generation of us going out and buying $100 jeans that probably cost less than $1 to make.
We had a week that felt like summer (+18°C) and then it was winter again for some days (even with snow and temperatures below 0°C) Now rain, wind, cold. We hope spring will return soon as it will be “Pasen” (= Passover or Pesach in Dutch) soon. Have a nice day and many greets, Rudi
💓 Rudi 💓 ~ have a lovely day!
Sincerely,
David
