A blues stanza
Thursday night at my 'puter, watch'n skies brighten,
Still at my 'puter when it start'n to brighten,
I scowl t'ward the window as it lets tha light in.
If I don' go to bed, I won' be getting no shut-eye,
Too many nights I been getting no shut-eye,
Tired in tha daytime... everyone know why.
My mind and my vision are both starting to fade,
Both my thoughts and sight, they startin' to fade,
Every night we part, at hint of aubade.
Together we done produced such stunnin' verses,
That how we roll, jus' crankin' out tha verses,
Tho quality be droppin' as night disperses.
My darlin' partner, we always got tomorrow,
Sweet darlin' 'puter, see you 'gain tomorrow,
Caught in mid-rhyme; such partin' is sorrow.
d’Verse prompt: Morning has broken
Aubade
In French, ‘aubade’ means ‘dawn serenade,’ and that is the meaning that English-speakers originally fell in love with. As the relationship of “aubade” with the English language grew, its meanings became a little more intimate. It blossomed into a word for a song or poem of lovers parting at dawn. Later it came to refer to songs sung in the morning hours. The affair between “aubade” and the dawn began with the Old Occitan word auba, meaning “dawn”. ~ Merriam -Webster
The prompt
At d’Verse, poets were offered two writing choices:
- write a poem evoking daybreak/greeting the dawn, or:
- write a poem about lovers parting at dawn
- Please include ‘Morning’ or ‘Aubade’ somewhere in the title of your poem;
- Either poem can be written in any rhyme scheme but since ‘aubade’ also refers to a piece of music to the morning… so focus on making the words sound melodious;
- For those who prefer more of a challenge, write in hymnal, ballad or a song format of your choosing.
Muri’s poetry scavenger hunt

My friend Muri is running a poetry scavenger hunt fo Na/GloPoWriMo, which I shall attempt to participate in fully this year.
From what I understand, she’s offering three poetry prompts every week for the duration of the month of April ’22 (on MWF).
Last year, I was pretty busy with my personal micropoetry project so I only responded to several of her poetry challenges, but this year I hope to rectify that!
Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.
–Ben Harper (b. 1969)
Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
Keep typin’ those blues ’til your fingers bleed! 🙂

Banging it hard, brother. I could hear the slide bar on the six-string, the wail and the beat. And you had fun with it; kudos.

Oh, man, I absolutely loved blues music back when I could hear well enough to play my guitars. I wanted to play in a blues band. My favorite guitarists are mainly blues guitarists. So, this poem had me grinning! What a fun piece this is. Twelve-bar blues FTW! 😀
