Her father was a world-renowned yodeler from Switzerland; and her mother played electric guitar in a heavy metal band; but the child was born mute and would cringe at even the slightest noise. Considered a freak and largely ignored, she kept to her bedroom, magically bringing shadow-birds to life and sending them soaring out into the sky.

Bravo!!! Nice one
Happy Sunday

A touching tale indeed. At least she was able to find happiness in her own way. Brilliant, David.

She was safer in her room than out. Am thankful for her shadow birds flying free. A whole heartbreaking story in a few lines. So good.

Who else could combine yodel with that image? Amazing ๐!

Heavens to Wilf Carter! ๐ This is both delightfully absurd and also unexpectedly poignant. I was laughing out loud about the marriage of opposites and then sighed at the ending, when she found her own means of expression. Just a crazy, very enjoyable piece of flash fiction.
Btw, thanks for your very thoughtful comment on mine. I appreciated it. ๐
๐ค Thanks, Shay ๐ค ~ yeah, the juxtaposition was deliberately silly – yodeling just takes me to silly places every time!
How can it not? ๐
This is brilliant David! ๐๐ So hooked I was, I thought it was real! ๐๐ Very intriguing!

Intriguing beginning for a great story.

A melancholy tone describing a lonely life…. well done and now I need a little chocolate to raise my spirits!

Wings spread. The shadow echoes her light. Source.

Thereโs something magical about this one, David. Its brevity leaves so much to the imagination. It would make an ideal first paragraph for a longer story. I want to know what happens to this girl and her shadow-birds! ๐ Really good stuff! ๐

Hi David, someone left Easter eggs and Matzos outside our frond door. Under the strict supervision of the chief Rabbinate of Jerusalem. From 15 Hayez’rah Jerusalem. Very curious.
๐ it wasn’t me ๐
I know that silly, but how odd.
I love the contrast of life this holds with the parents. A lovely and wonderful story poem David!
