Trove, or: Troubled

My 2nd Cyrch A Chwta

A quadrille

Her room was completely chock-
full of stuff no longer stocked.
She'd abandoned wearing socks,
for they were lost under blocks.
Visitors would softly knock,
rather than deal with deep shock
at panes blocked off from the dawn
and murals drawn in bright chalk.

Cyrch A Chwta?

(kirch a choota) An octave of seven-syllable lines rhymed aaaaaaba with cross-rhyme of b in the third, fourth, or fifth syllable of line 8.

dโ€™Verse Quadrille #150

The above Cyrch a Chwta is my take on todayโ€™s dโ€™Verseโ€™s Quadrille challenge. The Quadrille is simply a poem of 44 words (excluding the title), and it can take any form. This weekโ€™s challenge was to use the word โ€œchalkโ€ in a Quadrille.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. Nothing but highest praise for this one, David. (I know you can handle it .. wonโ€™t go to your head!)

  2. I’ve been gifting and tossing… Too often we value stuff over living.
Very good. I think I’ll skip this form – you did it well, but it is too much rhyme for my brain to figure ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Such a contrast between the chaos in the picture and the strict pattern of the poem -you make it look so easy, but I would imagine its the opposite.

  4. I’ve been resistant to try this one (I really dislike and thus avoid internal rhyme), but may have to give it a go after reading this wonderful effort! I thought of my sons’ rooms when they were teens. So it did bring a smile!
