Soft down, or: Ermine

A Garland Cinquain

soft down
over sunlight
noble snowy owl soars
white citrus cotton candy skies
easeful

glaciers
in bleached silence
glide through foamy white caps
sportive belugas vocalize
play tag

chubby
still harp seal pup
blends into vast snowbank
defenseless in mother's absence
wide-eyed

arctic
hare races past
watchful for predators
white winter coat camouflages
alert

burrow
deep underground
once home to small rodents
clever black eyes flash in hunger
ermine

soft down
in bleached silence
blends into vast snowbank
white winter coat camouflages
ermine

The above garland cinquain was written for Colleen M. Chesebroโ€™s โ€˜Tanka Tuesdayโ€™ prompt: Poets were prompted to write syllabic poems inspired by a color of their choice. I chose the color ‘white’.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

    1. โค ๐Ÿ™‚ Colleen โค ๐Ÿ™‚ ~ that makes me very happy. Thank you.

BTW, even though I'm subscribed to your blog, it seems that your posts don't always come up in my reader – do you know what's going on?

          1. I think it takes you off the โ€œcommunityโ€ serversโ€ฆ that is the only thing I can think of. Itโ€™s a puzzle to me. I know Eugi is on the Pro Plan and I find her posts in the reader all the time. You might have to search for Word Craft Poetry.

  1. icy biomes
    Polar owl soaring
    Above the tundra
    arctic coastal waters
    Saddleback Seal, simply gorgeous!!
    Defenceless eyes dreamy and
    Scary at the northpole
    Cold and enchanting
Stoat, the weasel, yes the master camouflage in the low temperature and short growing season – the arctic tundra
Bravo, riding upon a Garland Cinquain, was it 6 ?
    Marvelous exploration !!! David
