Mirthful hoots, or: Bobbing heads

A serious limerick

Having never before experienced the seas,
The tykes feared going in past their knees;
Leery of foamy waves,
They waded, trying to be brave,
T'wards their folks' mirthful hoots in the breeze.

A silly limerick

Seeing only the adults' bobbing heads,
The tykes took their parents for dead;
'Oh, gosh golly!' they thought,
'But, let's not get overwrought...
We could still use 'em as buoys instead!'

d’Verse Poetics: Summer Ekphrastic

At d’Verse, poets were offered several summer-themed paintings to choose from for their ekphrastic poems. Click here to see the full selection paintings.

For my limericks above, selected Edward Henry Potthast’s (1857 โ€“ 1927) ‘Summer Day, Brighton Beach’.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. Itโ€™s funny. It are the first two limericks I read from you and they were great.

            Also – is your FIL able to walk? Have the drs told you guys when he might be able to go home again?

            I’m doing fine… no major news – just settling into the new job and trying to keep up the poetry here in Blog Land ๐Ÿ˜‰

            We’re all healthy, thank goodness! And I don’t own any property to remodel – so no issues there either! ๐Ÿ˜‰

          3. Oy vey is right. Always and it’s coughing up blood daily but the first part is near done and will be fab at the end of the day … I think ๐Ÿ˜‚. thanks for your empathy.

            Oh man, he got situated and back home. then fell out of bed again. Back to hospital and now in a rehab place with lots of Covid. i haven’t visited yet as i’m a bit nervous with clients. It’s sad. He is soooo vibrant at 96. Buying sex enhancement pills and hair growth pills with the hopes of.. now that is a really big oye vey.. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ฑ

            That is good news. Happy your new job is going well. I take it your aunt is doing ok? You are doing great as always on the blog land. ๐Ÿ‘

            Oh I’m sooo glad you are all healthy. Your daughter must be getting out of school soon. xo ๐Ÿฅฐ

          4. your FIL sounds awesome ๐Ÿ˜€ ~ I hope he recuperates soon! Sounds like he’s trying to live his life to the fullest!

            Our daughter will have various summer programs until early August, which means we don’t have to worry about occupying her full-time until then (thank goodness!) So, yeah, the school year is coming to a close, but she’s still out of our hair for the most part… August is called the “Big Vacation” in Israel – that’s when all the parents have to figure out how to work and parent simultaneously! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

          5. I do too. It’s hard for me becuz I know in 6-8 weeks someone his age with improve and I’ve been saying it and his kids ignore me. the good news is, now he will be forced to do it. He is amazing.

            Oh this is so great to hear.
            she must be excited. She will do great and I’m glad you have activities she enjoys doing. that’s just awesome. It is always a juggle tho for sure. I’ll look forward to hearing about her summer fun! ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–. Don’t worry, multi tasking becomes your middle name.. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ฑ
