Never get old, or: Our souls

Poetry Partners #96

‘The Youth and Senior Citizens’, a Villanelle by Myrna Migala of ‘My Forever’

The youth will never engage
That our souls will never get old
Upon arriving at old age

Inside — Seniors feel caged
The aged will uphold
The youth will never engage

We old citizens feel as if onstage
Not at all controlled
Upon arriving at old age

We imagine; deem not changed
We can dance and feel quite bold
The youth will never engage

Our thinking never disengaged
We are as if thirty-three years yet untold
Upon arriving at old age

The truth of the soul will never assuage
To one who hasn't reached what fate molds
The youth will never engage
Upon arriving at old age

A Terzanelle by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

That our souls will never get old
A truth I often contemplate
That our souls will never get old

Thoughtful folks readily relate
To those much different than them
A truth I often contemplate

All souls are rare, brilliant gems
Sources of beauty and insight
To those much different than them

Man's essence defies finite sight
Each granted this lifetime to seek
Sources of beauty and insight

Wisdom is to listen, not speak
Fulfillment's in comprehending
Each granted this lifetime to seek

Learning ought be never-ending
Fulfillment's in comprehending
That our souls will never get old
That our souls will never get old

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

  1. Both wonderful David and lovely collaboration. Our essence, our true selves, our souls are unique as you say. I noticed with my mother her frustration as she got into her 90s that the face and body in the mirror did not reflect the way she felt inside. She said that her soul was crying out to dance, love and be seen as vital and strong.

    1. ya know, I’m in my early 40’s, and in many ways I don’t feel middle aged – I feel like I could very well be in my late 20’s or 30’s…

    Beautiful weaving and
Demystifying the way of the soul
    The young and the old
In this life and the after
    We will, still find, ourselves,
    In one fold.

Simply marvelous reading and poetry Myrna, 💜💜
Simply amazing and graceful collaboration David. 💜💜
