Once upon, or: Carnival

Poetry Partners #99

A series of senryū by Eugenia of ‘Eugi’s Causerie’

dreams faded and torn
emotions worsen with time
shades of la-la land

the moon is still dark
not wanting to face conflict
lullabies disturbed

spirits without fear
rise up above wickedness
til the end of time

A series of tanka by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

dreams faded and torn
emotions worsen with time
shades of la-la land
once upon a carnival
youthful hopes cast long shadows

the moon is still dark
not wanting to face conflict
lullabies disturbed
twilight memories stretch forth
rotting teeth gnaw at future

spirits without fear
rise up above wickedness
til the end of time
ferris wheel cars climb and drop
passengers don't disembark

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. Love the ‘carnival’ atmosphere both the poems created! And the change in nature between the two was very well done!✨

  2. I love what you did here. Changing the tone of a poem by adding a couple of lines is genius! Thank you so much for this opportunity, David! 💖

  3. Eugi’s poems were good – so very good. And then you made them into something equally good but much darker… I think I’ve been on that ferris wheel!
