Of primal drive, or: Law from above

Poetry Partners #109

A poem by Michaël of ‘Daily Poetry’

By what other name do we know love,
it's the warmth we receive
the lost souls we retrieve.
But closer than affection,
we don't seem to come
to describe that powerful feeling.
It's mother's protection,
a place to call home,
peeling layers off
will not bring us any closer
to offer a synonym to it.
There is written tons about it,
and nobody came up,
with a suitable nickname for it.

A Triolet by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

By what other name do we know love?
There is written tons about it,
Of deep, primal drive; law from above.
By what other name do we know love,
Meaning of being, or part thereof?
Love confounds even the subtlest wit.
By what other name do we know love?
There is written tons about it.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. One can write about love, but what is written lies flat… unless it is read by the fingers of the blind…
Foreknowledge of considered love can also be flat… unless one experience its mountains, and its valleys…!

  2. The late Dr Leo Buscaglia wrote a book called “Love.” His agent said that “tons have been written about it,” so the title should be changed. Buscaglia insisted and submitted it for copyright. Since then, he has been known as “Dr Love,” because he’s got a copyright on love.

  3. I sense a wry smile playing across the faces of 2 poets. The joy, the love, has many nicknames! I can hear my BIL calling my sister “Rutabaga” or my father saying “Honey”, the way my husband murmurs “dearest”, or when I say “my friend”…

  4. Love is inexhaustible,
    A gallery of wonder
Roses plucking their thorns weaing them as crowns
    Love is omnipresent unseen
    But often a sunrise splendor
    Love is known
    But yet unknown
    Love is unfathomable
But can be plumbed in the depths of a genuine smile.from.a stranger when one is lost in a far off land
By what other name do we know love?
There are written many tomes aboutt it.

  5. An excellent description of love by both of ye guys & how little we truly know of it! 👌👏👍❤️ I like how you expanded on the question posed in the first poem David! 👍

  6. Garfield, Teddy bear,
    The Dashing Hare
    Slow Turtle , Seven Dwarfs
    Elves and Nymphs
    Pet names galore,
    So we search
For the rib by his side
💕By what other name do we know love? There is written tons about it.💕
