Jerusalem, or: Haifa

I cheated on Jerusalem
with Haifa of the free; free; free
of strife, of tension, not to mention:
of hostility;

Floating in Haifa, 'pon the sea,
squinting at the sun, one with wave
breaks, done playing brave;
beaming, having fun;

I cheated on Jerusalem
with Haifa for a time, time, time;
heart charting its smooth course through
breezy, free~floating rhymes

W3 poetry prompt

This poem was written in response to Britta Bensonโ€™s W3 prompt ~ to write a poem that includes the name of a city, town, village, etc.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. One of my friends who live in Israel loves Haifa too. I’ve just finished a book with an amazing chapter about Israel. I hope one day I’ll visit your country David. My great grandmother visited it 10 times and I keep the faith that, one day, it will be my turn. Besides, I have two good friends living there.
