The drifting stars, or: As we are

Poetry Partners #126

A poem by Michaël of ‘Daily Poetry’

Is it required to love you with all my heart,
isn't our silences when the problems did start?
I am not missing you,
don't feel blue.
It maybe crude,
but love is sometimes rude.
Some people stand loneliness better than others,
in this age of egotism why even bother.
Disconnected as we are,
far away from the drifting stars.
We just are paddling on the ocean,
afraid and alone.

An Ovi by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

Far away from the drifting stars,
Hearts marred by sundry snaking scars,
Seared, all but certain nothing's ours,
Afraid; still, not alone.

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

  1. The first poem reads like a Rap! The idea of wanting and not wanting the closeness of love seems a modern problem and the modern answer is to not even try – because we train ourselves to accept being alone! Your Ovi is the answer to that pathos – scars not withstanding we cling to each other in the ocean of life…. Beautifully stated. I’m tickled that I’ve “driven” you to create. At least you aren’t driven to distraction!

  2. “in this age of egotism why even bother?” Doesn’t that just perfectly sum up the era we are currently living in? And David, “Afraid still, not alone.” Feel the fear and love anyways, right?! 😁
