Rich man, or: Poor man

A ‘Septolet’

Watching the news, I cheer.

Putin's under
severe pressure
in Ukraine

The Septolet is a poem consisting of seven lines containing fourteen words with a break anywhere in between the two parts. Both parts deal with the same thought and create a picture.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

      1. Yes, I believe you do.
The history of the region is both rich and poor.
That war-ego never gets put to sleep, permanently
In 100 years our offsprings will be scratching and bumping their heads about the same issues in different forms and coalitions.

  1. P.S. to the everyday folks among all walks of life, rich/poor, in places of influence/power and those with none, in Russia – ? That wish this thing had never started at all, and are paying front line and center, yourselves, too, for the wars of leaders who do not give a fig about whether you or those you love, live/die but demand your unwavering support? Um, yeah – might not be popular or correct – but you folks? You have my love and prayers, too –

  2. Increasing pressure, it seems, on multiple fronts, that said? Never doubt the ability of those who truly believe their right/duty to hear it – ALWAYS count upon them to not only, not fold their hand, but to double down or shove all in – Changing front lines, discontent at home, civic rebellion and support for rebels within his own sphere are being reported – as are leaders fleeing untenable battle positions, troops in disarray – me? Oh – it ain’t over yet, by a long shot, and now?

To me? I think of the words of one of the writer’s during my country’s war of ‘rebellion’ against major power who wished to keep hold of/regain land they thought was theirs, etc., and the places, folks and souls that stayed the course – during it –

As news reports on many fronts – about victories in battle fronts by Ukraine, unrest and civil rebellion in Russia? I don’t take heart in anything other than a full commitment by those making the news on various fronts – either side ….

Thomas Paine, “These are the times that try men’s souls”

Meaning, on any fronts other than the battle fronts of secured ground?

Many global souls being tried – winter coming – to we continue sanctions, to the detriment of our countryment struggling to keep warm/fed in winter? Do we continue to send arms, munitions to support our ally? Do we continue to send food, medicine, supplies to areas when other areas are suffering too? What plays best in mid-term elections in America and other NATO countries in face of ripple effects from COVID, supply chains, Inflation, rising mistrust, discontent and hate?

To me? The most dangerous time in this war is right now – even as I watch stories of those under occupation, weep, sob, try to speak and ‘de-stress’ from 6 months or so of ‘occupation’, war crimes, etc.

Wins to be sure – but to me? Right now, with Northern Hemisphere cold winter months coming, global inflation primarily to be found in energy & food prices – for everyone! Along with natural disaster hits ?

This right here, is the hardest time for leaders, nations, individuals to show up and say,

“This thing is not yet done – and may not be done until there is no doubt left, anywhere, on the level of sacrifice many global individuals will make, to support the invaded country.”

    Thanks for listening…..

    1. Tamrah Jo, I completely agree with you – the West and NATO have to double down and push through the difficult winter, supplying Ukraine with everything it needs to continue pushing the Russian forces out of its territory.

This is not over by a long shot, and with Putin’s back against the wall, he’s more unpredictable and potentially dangerous than ever before.

      1. It’s very EASY for me to be split, on the ‘who is doubling down, ‘putting their money where their mouth is’, and those who ‘want this end result, but ultimately, don’t care how many living things, resources are chewed up/wasted while each side pursues their objectives – –

Sigh – given reports here? Ukraine has yet to actually RECEIVE the pledged funds that are needed to simply keep their country economically afloat while the fight an invading force – even while other stuff flows in – but, too – I’ve been on the receiving end of ‘told the truth’ and getting such things ‘clipped/edited’ to ‘make a point’ here and there – thus – to me – and my Greatest weakness? strength?

I often just think about – “Soo – – what does this all look like for the millions of folks who didn’t get highlighted/their stories told publicly? Edited to ‘make a point’ given the marketing point –

Sigh – so often, my heart lies with the underdog on any front, even with successes on physical battle fronts AND I do, at the core of my heart, really have no use for bullies – no matter what reason why –

And yet – I always think about, “Okay – I decided to stand on this side – what does the opposition side look like, for the everyday citizen? How much must those everyday folks suffer on many fronts from their own, their ‘in common enemies’ etc., , all while it seems their personal life is rather falling apart…the part they thought would be okay – if only…their leader had chose right –

And thus, hard, simple choices become very complicated for me – on how to ‘feel’ even while, I will take a stand on some core things, here and there –

      1. it is more complex then
me i just try to make a septuor (seven lines poem in french ) and i realize that i made a sextet (six lines poem) but it work in the french version if you incluse the MUST BE in it and change the OR for OR THEN 😦
it was like for me writing an haiku: i suck at it 😦

  3. The Septolet is a challenge for me. Since you are adept at the American Sentence it is no wonder that this seems effortless. And you forced a sly smile from me while reading this. I hope the pressure increases and he must turn tail and retreat, surrender and be replaced. Why is it that dictators never are satisfied?
