An American sentence:
After visiting her child abroad, she returned to a changed Russia.
What’s an ‘American Sentence’?
Allen Ginsberg, inventor of the American Sentence, felt that the haiku didnโt work as well in English. Ginsberg decided to remove the line structure of the haiku, maintaining the requirement of 17 syllables total. He felt that removing the line count freed the American Sentence up for the idiosyncrasies of English phonemes.
The requirements:
- Composed in one line;
- Syllabic, 17 syllables;
- Condensed, written with no unnecessary words or articles;
- Complete sentence or sentences;
- Includes a turn or enlightenment.
Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.
–Ben Harper (b. 1969)
Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
So well expressed!

Truth is relative… what we understand, is only what our minds allows us to be able to rationalize our own sanity… just because we see a signpost, it doesn’t mean we are going to take that road… regardless of who points it out…!

So, I hope your wife and MIL have grown a bit more during her stay. Perhaps, they have a stronger bond. Maybe some form of change has taken place?
โค trE โค ~ she is convinced that only Russia media is telling the truth โ all is else is propaganda. So, while she was here in Israel for 6 weeks, she only watched her own Russian media channels.
And we didn't talk about the issue with her (thank goodness), so she maintained her perspective and flew back to Russia, ever the Russian nationalist.

I’ve been curious how your MIL and you all faired for that long together David. Does she notice the changes and did she come around to seeing the change? ๐

It just shows people especially at that age have their own reality and you just go crazy if you try to change their views. Not until itโs literally on their doorstep, will they believe truth.
I hate to say ignorance is bliss but maybe at her age. Glad she had time with your daughter and hope your wife had some good memories.๐
In Russian it could mean

Change.

๐ Thanks. Glad to hear the visit went well. My brother’s MIL is opinionated but old and alone and has lost two of her children, so I call and chat with her every week now. Am finding that it helps me too.
I totally get that, Danial – you’re doing a very good thing. Do other family members also call her?
~David
Yes. They do.
And so it goes – what we once knew is frozen in our hearts but change happens and the picture in our heads won’t match what our eyes see in the present time…
