My seven-year-old daughter is not inherently opposed to healthy food, but there exists a very small subset of healthy foods that she is willing to eat without creating a fuss. One is a salmon vegetable soup that my wife makes, which leaves our daughter smacking her lips and asking for more.
Whenever my wife goes abroad, as she does several times a year for work, she always makes sure to prepare a big pot of this beloved soup for our beloved child.
d’Verse Haibun Monday: Soup’s on!
At d’Verse, writers are encouraged to write soup-themed haibuns.
Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
That soup sounds and looks amazing. I would love the recipe. 🐟 🍲
salmon 🐟, potatoes 🥔, tomatoes🍅, mushrooms 🍄, broccoli 🥦, parsley 🌿
Chicken broth? It sounds heavenly!
nope no chicken broth – but you do you 🙂
Water? How do you get the soup part… or is more like a stir-fry. Either way, I’m good. 😀
it’s a soup – it’s water-based
Perfect.
🤗
she grates the tomatoes, btw
Oh that sounds wonderful! Thank you.
😋
Excellent haibun. Can I get the recipe, David?
the ingredients are salmon, potatoes, tomatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, parsley – do you need more info than that? (I can ask if yes!)
This is sufficient, thank you so much, David.
😻
she grates the tomatoes, btw
Thank you, I was thinking that. Makes sense.

Lovely haiku! I am consistently amazed with how hard it can be to make kids eat. I keep telling them “when I was a child, I ate what was on my plate”… a statement I believe to be completely true. But I can’t remember how it was that my parents persuaded me this was the only option. Somewhere between my childhood and the birth of my children, a change has taken place. Parents are less dictatorial and the kids know it. End of story. Bizarre.
