Cold, or: Hot

Bottles never used to last me too long;
now cognacs and whiskeys stand around bored
for many long months on our kitchen shelf.
Sure, I pour a glass every so often
(rarely, truth be told); but excitement's gone.

Is it my writing, my medication,
my age? Hard to say, but that beer I had
yesterday hit the spot; one can of brew
and I felt myself very much content.
Somewhere, I misplaced my taste for the fire.

d’Verse poetics prompt: Cheers!

At d’Verse, we are encourage to write poems with connections to drinking.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Ben Harper (b. 1969)

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

Internet is extremely slow, we have connection lapses. The towers are also affected.
            Stay safe.

  2. My drinking habits have changed a lot as I’ve matured, I now drink for the taste and complexity, not the social lubrication, or the blurring of lines.

Great poem. Pour me a cold one.

  3. Funny how that one beer can sometimes hit the nail on the head. Figuratively! It must have to do with the day, the sun, the mood, the music on the radio….driving fast. I don’t know but sometimes it only takes one.

  4. Luv a cold beer on a hot day. Lately here๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡น we have been having say and night rains. Tea and coffee are my mantras

    Much๐Ÿ’›love
