Creation, or: Extinction

Poetry Partners #173

‘Mother Earth’, a poem by Ami (Gypsie) Offenbacher-Ferris of ‘Gypsie’s Writings, Musings, Quotes & Poetry’

I am Mother Earth
birthplace of all living
and non-living things upon me

Be it animal, plant, water, dirt or sky
it is I who hold the key
to their creation or extinction

Those that are gentle upon my skin
may live in peace and prosperity
such as the lovely butterflies

Those that rend my skin
pollute my rivers and seas
will not see my gentler side

But the rising tides of my anger
and the swell of hot magma
from my very being and my core

It is I who rules this land of mine
all these millennium and I who will stay here long after you are gone

An ‘Octo’ by ben Alexander of ‘The Skeptic’s Kaddish’

You rend my skin, pollute my seas
You scorn peace and prosperity
I will survive your extinction
Angry, I'm swollen with magma
At my deepest being and core
I will survive your extinction
You scorn peace and prosperity
You rend my skin, pollute my seas

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

  1. Powerful and thought provoking ode on the superiority and resilience of our planet earth in the face of our abuse & ill treatment of it. Well written Ami & David! 👌👏😁
