A Sijo
is the artist's special challenge creating while uninspired? perhaps it lies in learning to generate inspiration or in the understanding that's it's just another word
Sijo?
A Korean verse form related to haiku and tanka and comprised of three lines of 14-16 syllables each, for a total of 44-46 syllables. Each line contains a pause near the middle, similar to a caesura, though the break need not be metrical. The first half of the line contains six to nine syllables; the second half should contain no fewer than five. Originally intended as songs, sijo can treat romantic, metaphysical, or spiritual themes. Whatever the subject, the first line introduces an idea or story, the second supplies a โturn,โ and the third provides closure. Modern sijo are sometimes printed in six lines.
Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.
–Ben Harper (b. 1969)
Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
Yes. We have to show up even when we arenโt โinspiredโ or โfeeling it.โ The real work is in the showing up and trying again and again.

๐๐๐ป Rayla ๐๐ป๐ ~ ya know, traditionally sijos were songs from what I’ve read!
Dyou know one? Be great to see how this is done. I’ve put tunes to few of my lines. But this is how its done for better. A consumable story๐๐ถ๐
I don’t, sorry.
Just one word is all it takes Sometimes. It only takes a spark to start a fire. But therein lies the struggle. This is quality as always David.
๐๐๐ป Nigel ๐๐ป๐ ~ thanks, Sir!
BTW, did you see my comment on your poem with the Statue of Liberty ๐ฝ art?
Just saw it… Of course you can sir.

Being afraid of a comeback and feeling stuck with your art or choked up can be depressing.
Staring helplessly at a blank page is a nightmare for those of us learning the fine art.
But it is the comeback, after so much effort and feelings of down and out
When disempowerment and sadness sits there wantoning to settle in
Crisis favours introspection ๐๐
Great question
๐๐๐ป Abi ๐๐ป๐ ~ you totally get it!

Artists understand Inspiraton is just another word for Muse. ๐

it’s just another word – so interesting to look at it that way!

David you always seem to take hold of the essence of the poetic struggle! Bravo – your sijo is brilliant!

I like this theory, David. We generate our own inspiration… that’s wonderful!! ๐
๐ค๐๐ป Colleen ๐๐ป๐ค ~ thanks!
I’ve actually taken online classes in creativity. Basically, it amounts to doing something different, or doing the same things in a different way. It works by prompting one to ‘think outside the box’.
๐ค๐๐ป Rhonda ๐๐ป๐ค ~ that’s a great take ๐
