‘The Tail’ nonce form
- Single syllable lines
- Words may be broken, only if the syllable is a word.
- Loose rhyme is expected.
- The poem must convey a tale, tall if possible.
This poetic form was created by Michael โMouseโ Murdoch
Murisopsis’ Scavenger Hunt for National Poetry Month
This poem was written for Muri’s poetry scavenger hunt.
This year, she has selected some nonce forms that she likes for us to experiment with, the first of which is ‘The Tail’.
Nonce forms are essentially poetic forms created by poets for one-time use…. When enough people use a nonce form it becomes recognized as a received form…

Nicely done! Not so nice the message conveyed. Always sad to hear about discrimination in what should be a more enlightened world.
๐๐๐ป Michael ๐๐ป๐ ~ thanks!
Sincerely,
David
It sicken me Ben. Jackasses need excuses. I am proud of the Jewish people. They overcame a war to kill them and are standing with a f-U finger to their enemies and the world. The people talking negative are the dangerous ones. Three politicians fired in Georgia for being anti-guns. Time for us who love safe schools and freedom to stand strong for the right. Weak people need excuses.
โค John โค ~ thanks!
As I see it, antisemitism is prevalent on both the left and right sides of the political spectrum, unfortunately ~ it's not one group's exclusive domain… It's been around for thousands of years, and it will be around for many more, unfortunately ๐ฆ
BTW, please feel free to call me ‘David’ because that is my first name. In Hebrew, the word ‘ben’ simply means ‘son of’, and my father’s name was ‘Alexander’… I created this blog in his memory, you see.
I know it’s super confusing because ‘Ben’ is a popular name in English ~ I’m really sorry about the confusion, John.
Sincerely,
David
Hello David. Once in a faraway life. I went to Israel and I trained them on our new weapons. Funny part. The Israel army had better weapons. They were kind to me. I am old school. You work hard, make money. You have no reason to be knock-down. I enjoy your site. We must remind people. We cannot allow hate and racism.
Amen!
Both women and men. Solid soldiers.
well, as you know, it’s an existential thing for us here… it’s like the Ukrainians today ~ they’re fighting because they have no other home…
I agree. Ukraine war will last a long-time. I pray for the poor people in the way of testing new weapons. I know. I was a NCO who organized the deployment of trains. I went to the big meeting. Soldiers and human life. Just a body count. Men and women, in-charge. No concern for the safety of the Ukraine people.
it’s beyond depressing for me… *sigh* I feel terrible for them – and I also feel terrible for the Russian people, even the ones who support Putin, because their country is being destroyed by this war – even if it is taking longer and isn’t a physical destruction like that of Ukraine…
I have written often. I saw Iraq and Bosnian. No-one win in war.
well, arms dealers (for example) do pretty well for themselves…
but, yes, you’re right.
awful all around ๐ฆ
my wife’s entire family lives in Russia, and she has very close friends in Ukraine – so we’re very tuned in to what’s going on over there…
You are right David. In USA, 25% of taxes for war. And no active war. I saw many war zones. It is a terrible way to live.
Excellent! Focusing on one word at a time made each one more meaningful and intense. I also think it affected the reading pace. Most importantly, your message was clear. ๐๐ป
๐๐๐ป Michele ๐๐ป๐ ~ thanks so much
I was just talking about this with a friend. Someone she knew asked her if it’s really true that there’s still a lot of antisemitism….(K)
๐๐๐ป Kerfe ๐๐ป๐ ~ oh, it’s quite on the rise; a casual Google search will yield the stats
My daughter worked for the ADL one summer scanning the internet for blatant antisemitism and attempting to get it removed. So I know. And this was 2018.
yup ๐ฆ
Antisemitism is alive and condemned. Nib it in the bud. Donโt ever let it fest.

This is a unique form of poem that I am learning of only now, so thank you for introducing. It feels very powerful, the tale sinks in slowly, one word at a time and the message becomes impactful.
๐ค๐๐ป Pragalbha ๐๐ป๐ค ~ this was my first attempt at this form; thanks!

You are very welcome David.
This is the kind of “in your face” writing I appreciate. ๐ช๐ช๐ช… I’ve had editors deny pieces that called out bigotry and racism, or even disguised hatred, because it might step on a few toes. Thanks for just speaking your heart David. ๐ You made my day. ๐๐
๐๐๐ป Nigel ๐๐ป๐ ~ thank you so very much; I wasn’t even planning on writing about this; it just came out.
I’m glad it did… ๐ช
