At peace, or: For now

A modified ‘Memento’ poem

After long tortuous ages...
words settle upon screen-
at peace;
unfurled, mind's warped curling pages-
line upon line serene...
~ angsts cease ~

Read, read, reread; and all is right-
thoughts mercifully still
for now;
it's for these moments that I write-
slavelike, clasping for quill...
and- how.

W3 weekly poetry prompt

For this week’s W3 prompt, Destiny encourages us to write poems using the memento poetic form.

Memento poetic form?

A ‘memento’ is a poem about a holiday or an anniversary, consisting of two stanzas. Each of the two stanzas is:

  • Six lines;
  • Syllabic: 8-6-2-8-6-2;
  • Rhyming: a/b/c/a/b/c.

Potential variations for W3

  • Feel free to add an extra stanza;
  • Do not confine your words to an anniversary or celebration;
    • Rather, explore a moment or an emotion, should your thoughts wander there.

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
