W3 weekly poetry prompt

For this week’s W3 poetry prompt, Sadje encourages us to:

  • Write an ‘elfchen’ poem;
  • Extra challenge: write a second elfchen poem, which opposes the first one.

Elfchen poetic form

An elevenie (German: elfchen) is a short poem with a given pattern. It contains eleven words which are arranged in a specified order over five rows. Each row has a requirement that can vary.

The typical structure of an elfchen is as follows:

ROW NUMBERWORDS IN ROWROW CONTENT
11A thought, an object, a color, a smell or the like
22What does the word from the first row do?
33Where or how is the word of row 1?
44What do you mean?
51Conclusion: What is the outcome?

Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!
